When's the last time you said, "Woo-hoo!"

*This month’s post is written by Diana Hutchinson*

“I had the best day of my professional life, and what did I do that afternoon? I sat back down at my computer and pulled out my to-do checklist.”

My friend Ryan shared that story at our Toastmasters club, along with a reminder to pause for reflection and celebration.

I see myself as a very responsible person, and I can have a high bar for what “deserves” celebration. Ryan’s story made me reflect on how often I just get back to work without really savoring when things go well. And if I do that too much, I can come across as unappreciative to others, and work can start to feel like a slog.

Years ago, my coach, Traci, encouraged me to celebrate, even small things, with a fist pump and a “woo-hoo!” Ryan’s story brought that back up and reminded me - I need to celebrate more often, out loud.

So I tried it. In our team quarterly review, we saw that our Net Promoter Score was high. That means our clients are very happy with our work together and would recommend us. Rather than moving on to the next metric, we paused and looked back a little. “Do you realize our score has been 100 for the last 18 months?! Woo-hoo!”

The pause to notice and name  brought up the energy of our group, and it felt like it added a little momentum to our week.

Here’s some of what clients said:

“Trebuchet Group took great care in understanding our organization and then creating experiential training that directly related to our goals and needs. We loved working with you. I hope we get to work with you again soon.”

“You did a great job of supporting our strategic planning process and evaluation work. Our team and community partners felt engaged, heard and bought-in, and there is a lot of excitement about where we are going from here. Thanks!”

The impact we are having with our clients is something to celebrate - we did a happy dance!

What could you take one minute to celebrate this week?

I’d love to celebrate with you. And if you’d like help noticing what’s working on your team, let’s talk.
